As seen on The Hunger Games Movie Official Facebook, and reported by THR:
Jack Quaid, son of actors Dennis and Meg Ryan, and Leven Rambin (Grey's Anatomy, All My Children) will play District 1 tributes Marvel and Glimmer, Hey guys, sorry for the obvious lack of updates, but I'll try to get back on track. Obviously since last updating, Gale and Peeta were cast. Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, respectively.
But now EW reports that the studio has cast Hollywood newcomers Dayo Okeniyi and Amandla Stenberg as Thresh and Rue in the adaptation of the Suzanne Collins trilogy, directed by Gary Ross. Okeniyi, playing the intimidatingly strong tribute, has appeared in a short calledEyes to See and an upcoming horror film, Slew Hampshire. Stenberg, who is on board as Katniss’ arena ally Rue, has roles in the September’s Colombiana and the telefilm Taste of Romance. Here's the latest from Deadline.com:
Casting for the male leads on The Hunger Games isn't complete. I'm hearing that at the moment, Liam Hemsworth is frontrunner for the role of Gale Hawthorne, and that Josh Hutcherson is in the same position for the role of Peeta Mellark. Both have been hotly contested roles among young actors, as was Katniss before Lawrence got the job. Both of these guys look rights for the respective parts. Per Lionsgate, no offers have yet been made, and nothing is definitive. What are your thoughts on this? Hoping that it's just simply an April fools rumor? Or are you ready to see them taking on the Games on the big screen? Tell us in the comments! In the latest issue of People, that is currently on newsstands, there is a Hunger Games Poll in which People.com readers voted for. See the results below: No surprise here! Hunter Parrish gets the highest percentage of votes; he is rising to be the fan favorite nowadays after all. (Credit The Hunger Games Nation if reposting.)

Production update for “THE HUNGER GAMES” -- COLOR FORCE / LUDUS PRODUCTIONS INC. STATUS: May 23 LOCATION: Wilmington, North Carolina PRODUCER: Nina Jacobson - Robin Bissell WRITER: Billy Ray - Gary Ross DIRECTOR: Gary Ross LP: John Kilik PM: Louise Rosner CAST: Jennifer Lawrence LARGER THAN LIFE PRODUCTIONS LIONSGATE 2700 Colorado Ave. Santa Monica, CA 90404 310-449-9200 Fax 310-255-3870 Hollywood Crush imagines what the 23-year old actress may look like, after a little bit of movie magic, as the District 12 tribute. See their video below featuring illustrations of Lawrence as Everdeen: Well, you've probably already heard that Jennifer Lawrence has been officially cast as Katniss but hey you apprehensive fans don't fret yet, because you haven't even read how perfect Jennifer is for this role! Here are excerpts from an article which you could read in full here, in which NextMovie breaks down the similarities between Jennifer's Winter Bone character Ree and Katniss. The hopeless environment. Maybe it's a bit unfair to compare post-apocalyptic "District 12" with the meth-infested Ozarks, but both are desolate, dangerous environments where people resort to scary, illegal activities to survive. Neither Ree nor Katniss grew up with anything coming easy; they've had to fight since they were young just to get well-skinned squirrel on the table.
They're self-sufficient. While Ree and Katniss are both attractive (Lawrence's natural beauty shines even through the deepest grime), they're not looking for love, and they certainly don't need a good-looking guy to save them. In fact, they can take care of themselves and look at relationships skeptically. Katniss is so focused on survival that she doesn’t realize her best friend Gale and fellow Tribute Peeta have feelings for her. Ree looks scornfully at her married best friend who wishes she could help but has to do what her husband says. Their pain and suffering. In difficult-to-witness scenes, both Ree and Katniss become intimately acquainted with physical and emotional pain. A gang of sisters "puts the hurt on" Ree so badly she spits a tooth from her bloody mouth; Katniss faces so many horrors in the Hunger Games arena that it would spoil the movie to list them. Let's just say she can take the kind of repeated beatings that would make even a hardened prisoner squeamish. See the other five similarities at the link above! Well, that wasn't a long wait, isn't it? Here it is! Lionsgate's official confirmation through Hollywood Crush: It's official! Lionsgate confirmed EXCLUSIVELY to MTV News that the odds are ever in Jennifer Lawrence's favor. After months of speculation, the 20-year-old has scored the lead role in the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' dystopian drama "The Hunger Games." "I’m so excited to work with Jen and see her bring this character to life," said director Gary Ross. "Katniss requires a young actress with strength, depth, complexity, tenderness and power. There are very few people alive who can bring that to a role. Jen brings it in spades. She’s going to be an amazing Katniss." Author Suzanne also had nothing but accolades for the young woman portraying her embattled heroine. "Jennifer’s just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave. I never thought we’d find somebody this perfect for the role. And I can’t wait for everyone to see her play it.” Wow, Suzanne's description did me in! I'm now totally for Jennifer, considering that I never considered her before. How about you? Are you anticipating the movie already or is it taking awhile to warm up to Miss Lawrence?
