As of now, Phillip Troy Linger's involvement in the film is rumored. No official word form Lionsgate yet, but the role is listed in his upcoming projects on IMDb. Keep in mind, that IMDb has been 'wrong' on multiple accounts before, but we'll keep you updated on any developments.
From EW's Inside Movies: Samuel Tan — who is making his movie debut inHunger Games — will be playing District 8′s unnamed tribute boy, while Mackenzie Lintz, also making her debut, will play District 8′s unnamed tribute girl. Not much is known about either character, but Lintz’s tribute does have a run-in with Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) in the book.
Since the last site update, 5 Districts were cast. I know I know, so sorry for being MIA (running two sites solo are proving to be a challenge) but I will attempt to stay on top of the news more. So without further ado, the Tributes! Many Unnamed and Foxface!
Here's the latest from Deadline.com:
Casting for the male leads on The Hunger Games isn't complete. I'm hearing that at the moment, Liam Hemsworth is frontrunner for the role of Gale Hawthorne, and that Josh Hutcherson is in the same position for the role of Peeta Mellark. Both have been hotly contested roles among young actors, as was Katniss before Lawrence got the job. Both of these guys look rights for the respective parts. Per Lionsgate, no offers have yet been made, and nothing is definitive.
What are your thoughts on this? Hoping that it's just simply an April fools rumor? Or are you ready to see them taking on the Games on the big screen? Tell us in the comments!
In the latest issue of People, that is currently on newsstands, there is a Hunger Games Poll in which People.com readers voted for. See the results below:
No surprise here! Hunter Parrish gets the highest percentage of votes; he is rising to be the fan favorite nowadays after all. (Credit The Hunger Games Nation if reposting.)
Well, you've probably already heard that Jennifer Lawrence has been officially cast as Katniss but hey you apprehensive fans don't fret yet, because you haven't even read how perfect Jennifer is for this role!
Here are excerpts from an article which you could read in full here, in which NextMovie breaks down the similarities between Jennifer's Winter Bone character Ree and Katniss.
The hopeless environment. Maybe it's a bit unfair to compare post-apocalyptic "District 12" with the meth-infested Ozarks, but both are desolate, dangerous environments where people resort to scary, illegal activities to survive. Neither Ree nor Katniss grew up with anything coming easy; they've had to fight since they were young just to get well-skinned squirrel on the table.
They're self-sufficient. While Ree and Katniss are both attractive (Lawrence's natural beauty shines even through the deepest grime), they're not looking for love, and they certainly don't need a good-looking guy to save them. In fact, they can take care of themselves and look at relationships skeptically. Katniss is so focused on survival that she doesn’t realize her best friend Gale and fellow Tribute Peeta have feelings for her. Ree looks scornfully at her married best friend who wishes she could help but has to do what her husband says.
Their pain and suffering. In difficult-to-witness scenes, both Ree and Katniss become intimately acquainted with physical and emotional pain. A gang of sisters "puts the hurt on" Ree so badly she spits a tooth from her bloody mouth; Katniss faces so many horrors in the Hunger Games arena that it would spoil the movie to list them. Let's just say she can take the kind of repeated beatings that would make even a hardened prisoner squeamish.
See the other five similarities at the link above!
Well, that wasn't a long wait, isn't it? Here it is! Lionsgate's official confirmation through Hollywood Crush:
It's official! Lionsgate confirmed EXCLUSIVELY to MTV News that the odds are ever in Jennifer Lawrence's favor. After months of speculation, the 20-year-old has scored the lead role in the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' dystopian drama "The Hunger Games."
"I’m so excited to work with Jen and see her bring this character to life," said director Gary Ross. "Katniss requires a young actress with strength, depth, complexity, tenderness and power. There are very few people alive who can bring that to a role. Jen brings it in spades. She’s going to be an amazing Katniss."
Author Suzanne also had nothing but accolades for the young woman portraying her embattled heroine. "Jennifer’s just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave. I never thought we’d find somebody this perfect for the role. And I can’t wait for everyone to see her play it.”
Wow, Suzanne's description did me in! I'm now totally for Jennifer, considering that I never considered her before. How about you? Are you anticipating the movie already or is it taking awhile to warm up to Miss Lawrence?
Just waiting for an official press release, but according to many sites such as Entertainment Weekly, it's official! Jennifer Lawrence has nabbed the much wanted role of Katniss Everdeen! Here's an excerpt:
20-year-old Jennifer Lawrence, whose blisteringly fine work in Winter’s Boneearned her an Oscar nomination, has landed the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games.
A source closely familiar with the casting told EW an official announcement should be coming shortly.
So you heard EW, it's coming soon. In the meantime, share your thoughts on Jennifer as Katniss in the comments below! Here's to hoping in finding out who will be Peeta and Gale soon!
NextMovie reports that the Weeds actor is in talks to play The Hunger Games' Peeta Mellark.
"I've met the producers," Parrish told E! Online. "I'd be grateful to get the opportunity. Like, really grateful. It would be amazing."
But of course as the article mentions, don't cast off Beastly actor Alex Pettyfer yet, who has been a definite fan favorite. Also, it's true that even though he has spoken with producers, Parrish haven't sign any deals yet. But the actor does mention his other views on the part if he were cast. Especially because of his much older 23 year-old self if a younger Katniss Everdeen were to be cast.
"If it's Jennifer [Lawrence], man, sign me up!" Parrish said, referring to the Oscar nominated star of "Winter's Bone." "I think if it ended up being Hailee Steinfeld or Saoirse [Ronan] or who's the other one? Abigail Breslin. Then it would be weird. It would be really weird."
What are your thoughts on the Hunter? Can you see him being the 'hunted'?
A leading official Hunger Games Movie source, Variety, has also reported on Jennifer Lawrence's possible official attachment to the film as the lead. Will this be it? Is Jennifer the one to bring to 'life' Katniss?
Exclusive: Jennifer Lawrence is close to getting an offer to star as Katniss in Lionsgate's "Hunger Games," Lionsgate's bet on the next "Twilight"-sized young-adult franchise.
Age was a significant factor in the decision, as insiders have told Variety that Ross and Lionsgate execs were weighing whether to play the role younger or older. That would not only help determine the tone, but also play a part in casting other roles, specifically the role of Peeta, Katniss' love interest.
Steinfeld and Breslin are both 14 and Lawrence is 20. Though there are plenty of up-and-coming teenage actors, Lionsgate can more easily find a recognizable face in his 20s for the male lead.
The deal may have come together sooner, but Lawrence has not officially signed on to any other projects since her best actress nomination.
