And be sure and watch her on David Letterman tonight (5/19), and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tomorrow (5/20). I wouldn't be surprised if HG was brought up during either interview!

Will it make a good movie? The Hunger Games, the name of the first book as well as the series, has the potential to be one of the best novel adaptations ever to hit the big screen. It’s action-packed, violent, thought-provoking, and addictive — and, if done right, should translate well to film. It’s a large-scale story with the need for some visual effects and minimal sets, but most importantly it needs actors who can convincingly play main characters Katniss and Peeta. They’re war-ravaged and fighting to the death — there’s no room for Paris Hilton–level acting here. Franchise potential? There are three books in the series, each dealing with war, survival, and a terrifying dystopian future. If Hunger Games performs well in theaters, movie studio Lionsgate could find itself with a potential Harry Potter-sized six-year franchise. Fandom? Over the past year or so, The Hunger Games has grown in popularity, thanks to the recent influx of dystopian young adult books and fan word-of-mouth. There are already fanmade movie trailers on YouTube, a Facebook fan page, and a number of devoted fansites. On the popularity scale, this one’s right at the top |
